This print shows some of the pageantry of the inauguration of William Henry Harrison.
An aging war hero, Harrison won the election of 1840 with the classic campaign slogan, "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too," and was inaugurated on March 4, 1841. It was a very cold day in Washington, and Harrison marked the occasion by delivering a very long inaugural address, clocking in at more than two hours.
Harrison caught a cold on Inauguration Day, and the cold turned into pneumonia. A mere month after taking office, Harrison died and was succeeded in office by his vice president, John Tyler.
