Industrialists

The 19th century was in some ways defined by the men who created its great industries. Men like Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller made business hum, and historians will forever debate their contributions to the world. One thing is certain, the more you learn about them, the more interesting they become.

Andrew Carnegie
This site at PBS is a companion to a documentary on the Scottish immigrant who became the richest man in the world. It contains a timeline, gallery, and a biography of Carnegie.

John D. Rockefeller
The Rockefeller Archive presents a biography of John D. Rockefeller, the founder of Standard Oil who eventually devoted much of his time to philanthropic pursuits.
