A Flood of Remembrances

Tuesday May 27, 2008
The anniversary of the Johnstown Flood is approaching, and a newspaper in eastern Pennsylvania, the Allentown Morning Call, has published an informative article about a visit to Johnstown, in the western part of the state.

While ostensibly a travel piece geared for a weekend trip, the article points out how the town has tried to lure visitors not only with attractions specific to the famous flood, but also a heritage center that focuses on the lives of European immigrants who came to work in the area's steel mills in the late 1800s.

A related article in the paper refers to the new attractions in Johnstown as a "Working Class Williamsburg." Sounds like a worthwhile destination!
